Cumberland County Prison Inmate Found Dead by Apparent Suicide: Officials

A Cumberland County Prison inmate was found dead by apparent suicide, officials announced on Friday, Nov. 8.

Amanda Beth Dunkelberger, 48, was discovered unresponsive in her cell on Thursday morning, Nov. 7, at 8:45 a.m.

Correctional officers performing routine rounds made the discovery and immediately initiated lifesaving measures. EMS arrived at the Carlisle facility at 8:55 a.m. and continued resuscitation efforts, but Dunkelberger never regained consciousness. She was pronounced dead at 9:17 a.m., according to Warden Travis Shenk.

Dunkelberger had been incarcerated since Friday, Nov. 1, after being committed on a bench warrant for criminal trespass.

The incident remains under investigation. Cumberland County Prison expressed condolences to her family and emphasized the availability of mental health resources for inmates.
